Annual DGT Alumni Exhibit 2017: Call for Exhibitors

DGT ALUMNI EXHIBITION FLYER A_.jpg

On Pratt Institute Alumni Day, Saturday, October 7, 2017 the Gallery House Program of the DGT Alumni Association (DGT) will proudly present the Annual DGT Alumni Exhibit.  The theme of this year’s exhibit is Space and Body. The designed space, among other things, can “exalt or stimulate” persons in that space (Philip Johnson). Artists can “make people see their surroundings differently” (Maya Lin).  Our surroundings increasingly include spaces and human bodies expressing very diverse cultural backgrounds and different political viewpoints. In a time of political turmoil, it is increasingly important for there to be safe space to express opinions and to pave new ways for communication through art and design. Can the human body and space, through art and design, serve as means for safe expression in a world and in communities that are increasingly diverse from racial/ethnic, cultural, and political perspectives? Can we see the ‘other’ in a new way? Can the other be exalted, celebrated? Through art and design can we bring about new awareness and understanding? Space and Body will be a multi-media exhibit of works by alumni who help answer these questions.
